Compact speaker
The Wilson Classic is a perfect fit with contemporary trends, drawing from the best acoustic designs of the 1960s and 1970s. This is not just fashion and nostalgia, but a return to the principals of proven design, which is based on the volume of a solid, wide-wall enclosure, efficient, large drivers, and traditional crossover design.
The Wilson Classic is a classic 3-way design in a large cabinet for a bookshelf speaker. In this design, the larger cabinet width helps add more volume to the mid and high frequencies, offering much better tonal balance.
The 1-inch textile dome tweeter is mounted on a large, dedicated faceplate with the brand's signature logo with a stylized brass "W". The midrange driver is a 5½-inch (130 mm) design with a Kevlar diaphragm and a rigid, resonance-free die-cast aluminum basket construction. The woofer unit is a large, by modern standards, 8-inch (200 mm) design, also made of aluminum with a Kevlar cone.
At the back of the cabinet there are two Dual Bass Reflex bass ports of precisely adjusted diameter and depth. This solution suggests placing the speakers in such a way that the distance between the rear wall of the cabinet and the room wall is at least 50 cm. The rear panel is also a place for installation of gold plated, double screw terminals with convenient, large nuts. This solution allows for bi-wiring.
The chassis is made of thick MDF and finished with a high quality vinyl veneer with clear texture. Two color finishes are available: traditional, black Black Ash with the structure of black oak wood, and unique in character Tobacco, perfectly imitating the color and structure of dried tobacco leaves - noble brown with subtle streaks falling into the color of old gold. As an added touch, a specially created brass-colored nameplate with the Wilson logo in the center of the rear panel adds a retro touch to the overall design. The entire front of the speaker is enclosed by a black, acoustically-neutral, magnetically-mounted grille with a pleasant, soft-touch texture.
The Wilson Classic is a tribute to the history of loudspeaker design, but with the vastly improved capabilities of today's materials and technologies. The bass is deep and well-placed, the midrange open and clear, with plenty of dynamics to liven up any song. The enclosure is larger than that of today's bookshelf speakers, and it enhances the bass response in an unforced manner that will be appreciated by users who seek excellent, timeless performance regardless of the type of music they are listening to.
For the Wilson Classic, we have created a dedicated Classic Stand that is ruggedly constructed of MDF, but irresistibly reminiscent of the industrial metal stands of decades past. They are the perfect inseparable components that not only add audiophile flair, but also position the speakers for ideal listening for the listeners seated in front of them. The separately offered Classic Stand is available in a universal black color. The surface is coated with a textured veneer reminiscent of hammerblow paint, giving it the appearance of being made of steel.
One thing is certain, the Wilson Classic is a design that is hard to pass by indifferently. It is a great counterpoint to a living room environment where users are not afraid to display the equipment that is the apple of their eye and the source of their musical passions.
